How many of my readers have ever heard of, or tried, chocolate gravy? It's more of a southern recipe, but only in certain parts of the south-Arkansas, Tennessee, and Texas are some of the states you'll more commonly find folks familiar with this scrumptious dish! I first discovered it about 10 years ago, at a church function we visited in Tennessee. Since then I have been hooked, and although it's taken quite a few tries, I finally have a recipe that turns out the perfect chocolate gravy. What do you do with chocolate gravy? you ask. My favorite is to top homemade buttermilk biscuits with it for breakfast, but a lot of people also eat it by itself.
So, for anyone who wants to try this yummy breakfast (chocolate for breakfast? Who wouldn't love it!), here is my recipe:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup Unsalted Butter
1 cup Sugar
1/2 cup Cocoa
1/4 cup Flour
2 c. Milk
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla
Directions:
In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add sugar, cocoa, flour and milk and mix. Heat on medium until all ingredients are dissolved/blended. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Serve hot over biscuits. Store leftovers (if you have any) in the refrigerator, and simply reheat in the microwave when needed.
We LOVE chocolate gravy! It's one of my husband's favorites, and although I don't make it often, we always enjoy it very much when I do! :)
