I don't know about you, but I am looking forward to summer this year, even more than normal. Blame it on the extended, bitterly cold winter we had, but I am so excited about being able to get outside and enjoy the weather, participate in various sports and activities, and just have fun! I know the kids are feeling the same way; they can't wait for summer to arrive, so they can be done with school for a while, and play outside for as long as they want. Of course, every parent worries about their children forgetting what they learned in the previous school session; the so-called "Summer Slide". It seems like the first couple weeks of getting back to school in the fall, is spent reviewing and re-learning what the children forgot! And that is why I am so excited to bring you a fun way of helping your children avoid the summer slide!
Super Duper Publications is a company that specializes in educational games and toys. If you've followed my blog for any length of time, then you have heard of Super Duper, because I have shared some of their products here before. This time I was able to choose a game for review, and I received the Grammar Chipper Chat.
Grammar Chipper Chat is designed to help youngsters study and learn about grammatical structures (16 of the most common). The best part is that they're having fun while learning! The game turns it into a safari exploration, with 60 different game board scenes, and an exploration theme throughout. To play, children choose a game board, and reads (or listens to) a question from one of the cards. If the child has difficulty, you can show them the opposite side of the card, which gives a picture "hint". If the child answers the question correctly, they roll the die, and place that amount of chips on their game board. The first player to cover all the circles on their game board with chips, wins! Even the clean-up is fun with this game though; children use the magnetic wand to pick up their chips!
Grammar Chipper Chat is suggested for children ages 5 and up, grades K through 5. This seems appropriate, although a 5 year old might need a little extra help. I love the fun way that children can learn about grammar with a simple game. It's the perfect way to keep your child's mind working over the summer months, so they're still learning and thinking, instead of completely losing any thoughts of educational experience while on break. Grammar Chipper Chat isn't the only game like this either; be sure to check out Super Duper Publications for a wide variety of educational games and toys you can use with your children this summer!
