Are any of my readers familiar with www.xango.com? How about with the idea of a juice cleanse? Many of my friends have done a juice cleanse in the past, so naturally after hearing about all the wonderful benefits from a few of them, I decided to do some research online. (Don't you love the internet?!)
Basically, a juice cleanse (also known as a juice fast) is a way to detox your body, and is a great way to get a fresh start for a new diet plan, new fitness routine, or just to, well, cleanse your body. It's a good way to clean out the junk from your body, especially if you want to get a jump start on weight loss. I have considered doing one for a short time, maybe even just a few days, to see the results and benefits. Many people do them on a semi-regular basis, maybe twice a year, for about a week, although some people say it's best (and safest) to only cleanse for 3 days at a time. During my research I learned a few things, so I thought I'd share them here.
First, of you're going to do a juice cleanse, do it right. Use organic juices, or buy fruit and juice them yourself. This way you're getting all the benefits of fresh fruit, without the added sugars and junk.
Second, don't let the word juice fool you. Typically people think of apple or orange juice, but there are so many more options! Just about any fruit can be used, and you can add in veggies as well for additional nutrients. We have a family friend that is a firm advocate of carrot juice, and while it's not something I personally have the taste for, he loves to blend carrots and apples together for his juices.
Lastly, do your research before starting a juice cleanse, and be sure to ask your doctor about it. People with diabetes absolutely should not participate in a juice cleanse, because of all the natural sugars. So be sure to ask a doctor, do your research online or through books, and make sure a juice fast is safe for you, and will give you the help or benefits you want.
If any of you have done a juice cleanse in the past, please share your thoughts here. Did you see or feel a difference in your body? Anything to do or not do when juicing? I'd appreciate any tips!
