Are any of my readers familiar with Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Drain Service? I can only remember a couple of times over the past 20 years or so that we ever had to call in a professional plumbing service. However, those times we needed a professional plumber, we sure were thankful for their expertise and services!
The biggest plumbing problem I can remember, was several years ago when we were staying in an RV at a friend's house for a couple weeks. They had a really nice set-up with a cement pad, water, sewer, electric, the whole deal. But, due to the fact that our trailer was sitting in one spot for a couple weeks, we didn't realize that the plumbing was getting backed up. Apparently with an RV, it needs lots of extra water flushed down when it's not being moved around every few days. All my experience with motor homes/travel trailers and I never knew this before! Anyways, after a week or 10 days into our visit, we noticed that the toilet was not going down. We used all the normal tricks (a plumbing snake, flushing lots of water, etc.) and still nothing happened. A friend who had some experience in plumbing took a look at it, and he wasn't able to do anything either. For a couple days while we were trying to fix it ourselves, we had to run into the home we were parked outside of for bathrooms, showers, etc. Not bad during the day, but kind of a pain at night! I mean, the whole reason I prefer an RV over tenting, is because it means no midnight runs to the bath house! Anyways, after just a couple days of this we called it quits, and called in a plumber. Believe it or not, to fix the problem they actually had to cut off part of the pipes underneath, unclog the drain, and then put on a new pipe! Thankfully, they were also able to put it on in a way that would help prevent the clogging in the future, so we never had a problem with the RV after that.
