As we pulled into the parking lot, we were surprised to notice a drive-through. This is the first Firehouse I've ever seen with a drive-through, and we later learned that it is one of only 5 locations to have one. As we stepped inside the restaurant, we were warmly greeted by several employees. The franchisee, Rusty, also came out and welcomed us to Firehouse Subs, and personally placed our order. I chose the Steak and Cheese Sub, which comes with onions, peppers, and mayo. I love that you can personalize your sub, and I was able to leave off the mushrooms and mustard.
C, who came with me, ordered her favorite from Firehouse; the Italian which comes with salami, pepperoni, ham, provolone, italian dressing, seasonings, and extra toppings (lettuce, tomato, etc.).
We each received a large sub, chips and drink. Every Firehouse Subs now features the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine, which gives you over 120 drink options. I love this thing! I think the kids love Firehouse Subs almost as much for the drink machine, as for the subs :)
The subs also come with a pickle slice in each basket, which is really the perfect compliment to a sub. The meal was perfect, and we actually had plenty of leftovers. After a full day of traveling, I thought I would eat more, but half of a large sub did it for me.
After our meal, I asked Rusty about the history of Firehouse Subs, and found the story very interesting. Here's the basic story from the website:
Our story’s got some serious meat to it.
Growing up in a family that is both entrepreneurial and built on decades of fire and police service, it seems we were destined to start Firehouse Subs®. Of course we tried other things along the way to our American dream – rock ’n’ roll, real estate, even Christmas tree farming. But everything we experienced on our path led us to Firehouse Subs.
Nearly 18 years later, with nearly 600 Firehouse Subs restaurants in 33 states and Puerto Rico, we’re convinced we’re doing a few things right. People come back when they’re treated well, and fed even better. Turns out, people absolutely LOVE the same things we do – the best meats, cheeses, and toppings we can find.
People come back again and again because, unlike other sub places, we steam our meats and cheeses, releasing a rush of flavors, then stuff a serving that’s way over code on one of our toasted private recipe sub rolls. It’s a winning combination that satisfies ravenous appetites and the value conscious alike.

I highly recommend any Firehouse Subs-you can't go wrong with the great food, clean restaurant, and the most friendly atmosphere and service I've ever seen. However, if you're in the Sarasota area, be sure to visit the Firehouse Subs on Bee Ridge Rd., because it really stands out-even among Firehouse Subs!!
Rusty gave me 3 gift cards for a giveaway, so 3 of my readers will have a chance to visit Firehouse Subs!

I have always wanted to try this place. My husband is a retired firefighter and we just got one of them close to where we live. I know we'd both pick the Smokehouse Beef & Cheddar Brisket™ sandwich.
