SGSG #5-Complete Idiot's Guides Review!!
Okay, so I'll be the first one to admit that giving a gift called "The Complete Idiot's Guide to..." sounds a little rude. I mean, you're basically calling that person an idiot, right? :) However, this series of books is immensely popular, and with good reason. I personally have many of those familiar orange-covered books arranged on my bookshelf. So, when offered the opportunity to choose a few titles for review during the Gift Guide, I was very excited! After browsing the catalog, I chose a couple titles for myself, and one for my brother (after all, this is a gift guide).
I received the Complete Idiot's Guide to Easy Freezer Meals, CIG to Singing, and (this one for my brother) CIG to Weight Training, Illustrated. As with all the CIG books I've read, I love the easy, fun reading experience these offer. You learn, yet you're enjoying yourself while doing it!
The CIG to Singing includes an audio cd with vocal exercises, practices, etc. This makes practicing what you learn in the book super easy, and helps quite a bit. Our family sings occasionally in Church, and I'd love to get better at this. So, I'm going through the book right now, but it will probably work it's way into the kid's reading list as well.
The CIG to Easy Freezer Meals is exactly what it sounds like. After a few chapters on the whys, hows and whats of cooking and freezing, the authors present you with chapters of recipes and instructions for preparing and freezing anything from breakfast muffins to dinner casseroles, or scrumptious-sounding desserts. Several recipes have made their way onto my grocery list for my next shopping trip!
I browsed through the CIG to Weight Training, and it looks like something my brother will really enjoy. The book includes loads of pictures so you can see the proper form for exercises, try some new stretches, and more. It really is a great book for anyone who wants to incorporate weight training into their exercise routine!
Of course, if none of these books are on your interest list, there are a ton of Complete Idiot's Guides, so check out their website for a complete list. Don't forget the holidays either (can you believe it's almost Thanksgiving already?!), as a CIG would be the perfect gift!
