ZVOX Audio Home Theater System Review and Giveaway!!

We bought a new TV monitor not too long ago. Of course, getting one of the new flat-screen tv's (at the lower-cost end of the spectrum, but still a pretty nice tv) we expected the sound to be much better than our old monitor. However, when we got it set up at home, we were shocked to realize as we viewed certain dvd's that we could barely hear what was being said. I have a small Bose iPod dock that can also be hooked up through an audio cord, so we brought that out some times, but when I use it for my iPod, it was getting to be annoying, swapping back and forth. Then I discovered ZVOX Audio, and was thrilled when they sent me the Zbase 220 for review!

The ZBase 220 is a single-cabinet Surround Sound System, that is literally just a little bit bigger than our dvd player. (Only 17" wide, 12.5" deep and 3.5" high). What I really love is that this is a single piece, with everything built-in. No extra speakers to find a place for, just one "box". It fits perfectly in our entertainment center, with the tv sitting on top of the Zbase.

Of course, with all new electronics, it's my job to get them set up, and this was no exception. The Zbase is made to receive the audio out from your tv, but, along with our volume problems, we must also have the only flat screen tv that doesn't have an audio out! So, I just hooked it into our dvd player, since we don't watch regular tv, and rarely watch vhs anymore. So, once I figured out our tv didn't have the correct connection capabilities, it was only a matter of about 2 minutes to get the Zbase hooked up and ready to go. 

When I turned on a dvd and hit the Zbase volume up to about 8, it was already louder than our tv volume. No, I am not kidding. And it's not only louder-it is surround sound! It sounds like you're in a theater! My Dad's favorite movie is Luther, and he immediately asked to watch the trailer with the new sound system. We put the dvd in and turned the sound all the way up-talk about a home theater experience! If you've ever seen Luther, then you've seen the scene with thunder and lightning. Well, with the Zbase 220 system, the thunder is shaking the floor, and you actually feel like you're in the middle of a terrible storm! Of course, Courageous is one of our family favorites, and watching it with the Zbase 220 makes it sound like we're in the theater.

Unfortunately this video doesn't give a great idea of how clear and loud the audio is, but even this is better than our normal tv sound. Oh, and BTW, this is not at the highest volume either!

If you need more volume for your tv, or simply want to turn your tv into a home theater, I strongly recommend Zvox Audio. The simplicity of a 1-piece system, combined with the quality of the audio, makes Zvox an obvious winner!
