Thunder In The Morning Calm Book Review! Don Brown

Although I don't often review fiction books, every once in a while one comes along that really grabs my attention. Many times when I actually read the book it doesn't live up to my expectations, but sometimes I get surprised with an awesome read. One author I like is Don Brown, author of the Navy Justice series. I have previously read his other books, and really enjoyed them. (I'm one of those women who prefers a good military or law enforcement-type novel over a romance :).

So when I was offered a copy of Don's newest book, Thunder In The Morning Calm, I was excited. TITMC is a part of a new series called Pacific Rim. This novel follows Lt. Com. "Gunner" McCormick as he is deployed with a carrier in the Yellow Sea. When he learns about Americans who are possibly still being held captive from the Korean War, he decides to take a "vacation" and go to North Korea solo. Gunner ends up financing his own rescue mission, taking only 2 other men as he ventures into the heart of enemy territory. As you follow Gunner on his dangerous mission, you will encounter many surprises, thrills, and ultimately, a final surprise. I really love Thunder In The Morning Calm!

One thing I really appreciate about Don Brown's books is that he writes from experience. A former Navy JAG officer, and officer at the Pentagon, Brown's books are very realistic, and show the spirit of our American military!
