SocialMoms and Farm Rich have teamed up to have us bloggers share some tips about how we keep our families happy! This sounds like a fun blogging idea, so here goes:
Our favorite way to have fun as a family, is to have game night every week. Sometimes this occurs as often as 5 nights a week, bit at least one night a week, we get together for some fun board games. And, of course, you can't have games without pulling out the snacks! Popcorn, chips and salsa, baked goods and cheese and crackers are some of our favorites! It just ain't family game night if we don't have a snack! We love to get together, snack, play, and just have fun enjoying each other's company! With all the games I have received for review, we have a huge selection to choose from. Sometimes we get stuck in a rut and play the same game over an over, but it's nice to try out some new ones together too-because oftentimes they end up being new family favorites!
Another fun family tradition we have is reading books together. Each member of the family takes turns picking out a book, and we take turns reading it out loud. This is something we have done for as long as I can remember, and everyone really enjoys it. Ranging from history to fiction, Christian biographies to horse stories, we have covered a wide variety of subjects in our family reading.
One of my personal favorites (and something the rest of the family also enjoys participating in) is trying out new recipes and making some new, tasty snack! No one seems to mind when I pull out a cookbook or go hunting recipes on the web to concoct a new snack. Whether it's a new cookie or brownie, a pie, or granola bars, everyone gets in on the best part-eating it! I am the designated baker in our house, so it's up to me to keep looking for new recipes to keep the family happy :) Not that I mind-I love baking, so it keeps me happy too! (Of course, the girls love baking too, so they're happy when they get to help in the kitchen as well).
One last tip I'll share is to keep in touch with each other throughout the day. Whether it's sending a note along in a lunch bag, emailing during lunch break, or calling just to check in, our family stays happy when we stay in touch. If part of the family is out of town for some reason, we use Skype to video call, at least once a day! Sometimes it turns into an hour long call, often a couple times a day. It makes each family member happy just to know that everyone cares about the other people. I remember growing up how my sister and I used to stick notes all over in our Dad's car before he headed out to work each day. Our Dad always enjoyed finding them, and we had fun trying to find new places to leave the notes!
So, what about you? Have any tips for keeping the family happy? Any family traditions that you enjoy? Please share them with me!
