Before being contacted by O.N.E. Drinks for a review and giveaway, I don;t think I had ever heard of coconut water. However, as I did some research on their website, I was amazed at how good it is for you! Coconut water has more potassium than a banana, and contains 5 essential electrolytes-it's even better hydration than pure water! This water is alkaline, and soothes and balances our system. Basically, coconut water is the ultimate beverage for athletes, or anyone who wants a full hydration experience...be it after a workout, sport practice, or just throughout a busy day. It's even great for pregnant or nursing mothers!
I received a pack of 4 O.N.E. drinks. 3 of them are the Kids variety, which come in the normal juice box packaging. But again, these aren't your average juice box. They have less sugar than fruit juices, and still contain the 5 essential electrolytes! My favorite of the 3 flavors is the fruit punch; it is very tasty! The raspberry lemonade was a very close second, though!
I also received a sample of the original O.N.E. Coconut Water. This one is not flavored, but still tastes great! Honestly, the coconut taste is not overpowering (which is good since I'm not real fond of coconut). The consistency is a tad bit thicker than normal water, but definitely not so much that it's disgusting! I liked that even though I don't care for coconut itself, I was able to get the benefits of drinking coconut water without having to make myself drink something I didn't like! This is a tasty, extremely refreshing beverage that packs so much nutrition it's amazing!
"Throughout history, coconut water was used to prevent and treat dehydration — and has proven to be more effective than hydrating with plain water. Coconut water contains all five of the essential electrolytes (calcium, potassium, phosphorous, magnesium and sodium) needed for effective rehydration. Coconut water is especially rich in potassium — 15 times the amount of potassium as most sports and energy drinks. Hydration and electrolyte balance is especially important at certain life stages. Pregnancy and lactation, for example, impose intense nutritional and fluid demands. Though the human body has evolved adaptations to safeguard fetal nutrition and milk production, even in the face of severe water restriction, this can be detrimental to a mother's own health. Others at risk for dehydration: infants and young children; athletes, particularly those engaged in intense endurance sports; the elderly, many of whom are on drugs that increase urine output and deplete minerals; and those taking certain medications, are ill or consuming alcohol. Not all beverages are hydrating, either because they contain too much sugar or have caffeine, which is a diuretic. Coconut water is, in many ways, an optimal source of hydration, supplying important minerals, including potassium and magnesium. It contains small amounts of naturally occurring sugar, giving it taste appeal but, overall, the caloric load is low, and it is entirely free of corn syrup, added sugar, artificial sweeteners, stimulants, flavorings and colorings."
