Pace Salsa Review!!

I have probably mentioned on here before how much our family loves salsa. Some members in our family only eat salsa with nacho chips. However, I love eating salsa on all different foods! From eggs (scrambled, fried, etc) to chicken biscuits, I LOVE salsa! And yes, chips and salsa is one of my favorite snacks...if I want a snack in the afternoon, or late at night-I reach for a bag of chips, and salsa. And, the brand of salsa we purchase the most is Pace. You can't beat the great taste, and the variety of salsas available! Pace sent me a box of their salsa and picante sauces for review, and I couldn't wait to try them all!

Isn't this a great package to receive in the mail?!

I received a jar of Picante Sauce, Chunky Salsa, Pico De Gallo, Salsa Verde, Black Bean and Roasted Corn Salsa, and Pineapple Mango Chipotle Salsa. (Note: to find out the difference between picante sauce and salsa, click here!)

So, I started out with the Chunky Salsa; this is the kind we normally get (although in varying degrees of heat-I prefer medium, but other family members wimp out and go with the mild :) This salsa is THE perfect dipping companion with tortilla chips! I was anxious to taste the Black Bean and Roasted Corn, as it  sounded delicious. Well, it is! It has almost a smoky flavor to it, and a milder heat level.
I wasn't sure I would care for the Pineapple Mango Chipotle salsa, as I am not a big fan of the fruity salsas that seem to be so popular recently. So, I was pleasantly surprised when I tasted this, and found that while there is a fruity taste, there is still a peppery, spicy kick! The Pico De Gallo was a favorite with my sister, who really enjoys spicy foods. It has a yummy taste, and a nice crunch! The Salsa Verde, while it doesn't look as appealing as salsa, tastes every bit as good! This is perfect for topping burritos, tacos, etc. It has a definite kick, with a hint of lime!

Last (but certainly not least :) is the Picante Sauce. Our family loves using this in breakfast burritos and nacho cheese sauce, but after browsing the recipes on the Pace website, I am saving this to try in a new recipe. I think this Cheesy Picante Mac and Beef looks perfect!

I was happy (but not necessarily surprised-after all, Pace is my favorite salsa brand) to find out several Pace varieties won at the Scovie Awards Competition earlier this month! Yeah! Go Pace!!

"January 19, 2011 - PARIS, TX – Pace Picante sauce and salsas scored their highest number of awards ever – nine total wins and two coveted first-place awards – in the National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show’s 2011 “Scovie” Awards Competition, one of the most competitive and recognized gourmet food award competitions in the country for salsas, hot sauces and barbecue sauces.
“This is the third year that Pace varieties have participated in the Scovie Awards and they have been more successful every year,” said Dave DeWitt, founder, National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show and Scovie Awards Competition.  “The Pace brand is definitely broadening its reach into more segments, reaching more salsa lovers around the country, and convincing experienced foodies who judge the awards that it has achieved gourmet salsa status.”
Named after the Scoville scale, which measures the spicy heat of a chili pepper, all Scovie Award entries are blind taste tested by a panel of judges, who base their scores on appearance, aroma, spice blend, originality, flavor and overall impression. This year’s judges included executive chefs, restaurant owners, culinary instructors, food writers and other food industry leaders.
Pace 2011 Scovie Award Wins
Pace Picante sauce and Chunky salsas swept the “All-Natural” salsa category, for entries made with no additives or preservatives.  Pace Picante sauce (“medium” variety) took first place, while Pace Chunky salsa (“hot” variety) won second and the “medium” variety of Pace Chunky salsa took third.
Pace Pineapple Mango Chipotle salsa also scored a first-place award, in the “Chipotle” salsa category.
The judges also recognized the “hot” variety of Pace Chunky salsa with a second-place award in the highly competitive “Hot” salsa category.
Pace Mexican Four Cheese salsa con queso took two second-place awards, in both the “Unique Cheese” and “Prepared Dip” categories.
Pace Salsa Verde won third place in the “Tomatillo” salsa category.
In the “Unique” salsa category, Pace Black Bean & Roasted Corn salsa took a third place award.
“We are extremely pleased to be honored this year with our best showing ever in the Scovie Awards,” said Pace Brand Manager Jeff Knabe.  “These awards are a testament to the passion of our employees and their commitment to quality.  Of course, with the football playoffs in full swing, there’s no better time for fans to enjoy Pace Picante sauce and salsas.”
The Scovie Awards Competition is now in its 23nd year. Entries are judged by a blind taste-test.  In this year’s competition, professional judges evaluated more than 600 entries of sauces, salsas and other spicy treats.  The National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show will be held March 4-6, 2011 in Albuquerque, NM."

Wow, I have really enjoyed the opportunity to work with! In addition to the t-shirt and checkbook cover that I previously reviewed, Jim sent me 2 other products. A magnet, with the saying "Creation...because a monkey wasn't my uncle", and a keychain with a dead "Darwin fish" and John 14:6 underneath!

Both of these are great items that would be perfect for gifts or just a unique witnessing tool for yourself! I like that while ChristianShirts main theme seems to be Pro-Life, they also have other designs available. The past few years I have realized more than ever before the need for Christians to have answers for their faith-especially when it comes to evolution. Too many Christians seem willing to compromise with the world on this subject, and don't even realize the importance! So, I have been doing a lot of research and study on the Creation/Evolution debate, and I am overwhelmed at how easily people accept what their school, professor, or "the scientists" (while ignoring the scientists who disagree with evolution) say, without studying it for themselves.  I love the design on the has a humorous look, and really catches people's attention when they walk into the kitchen.

The keychain is nice and sturdy, and has held up very well under use. And, of course, I love showing it off every chance I get! (Evolutionists get so mad when they see a dead Darwin fish with a Bible verse underneath!!)

I really recommend you check out They have a huge selection of designs (over 500) and each design can be put onto a variety of items...from t-shirts to tote bags, stickers to coin purses, and address labels to bookmarks! I just checked out their new designs, and had to share this one with you...a quote from former President, Ronald Reagan:
You gotta love it-it's so true!

Fiesta Canisters-Review and Giveaway!!

I love finding new items that are pretty, yet useful for the house. When I was given the opportunity to pick 3 canisters from Fiesta Dishes for review, I really enjoyed browsing the different colors available. I almost decided on 3 of the same color, but ended up going with a mix and match assortment! I chose Turquoise for the large, Chocolate for the medium, and Tangerine for the small.

The chocolate color is probably my favorite, although the Turquoise makes it hard to say I have 1 favorite :) I was very impressed with the quality of the canisters. They are very well-made, and my Dad was amazed at how heavy they were! They look beautiful sitting on the kitchen counter, and all 3 colors blend well with each other. The lids have a rubber lining that provides an airtight seal. The large canister is perfect for storing sugar, since we always keep plenty on hand. I’ve been keeping coffee in the medium canister, as it is the perfect size for a bag of coffee. The small one is just right for storing hot chocolate mix or tea bags...depending on what I have in the pantry :)

"FIESTA®, America’s favorite dinnerware, was introduced by The Homer Laughlin China Company with great fanfare at the Pittsburgh China & Glass Show in January, 1936.
FIESTA® was the creation of Frederick Hurten Rhead, a second generation Stoke-on-Trent potter who had become Homer Laughlin’s design director in 1927.
FIESTA® was an immediate hit with the public and, by it’s second year of production, more than one million pieces were produced.
The original five colors were Red, Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Green and Ivory. Turquoise was added early in 1937. The shapes of FIESTA® were created in an Art Deco style with concentric circles highlighting the bright colors.
The first six colors were produced through the 1930’s and 40’s until a change in fashion direction dictated a change to a softer palette of pastel colors at the beginning of the 1950’s.
Color trends moved back to brighter colors in the early 1960’s and FIESTA® moved with the trend. By the late 60’s earthtones were in vogue and the dinnerware industry turned in that direction. Popularity of these colors proved to be short-lived and sales began to fall. At the end of 1972, FIESTA® was retired after 37 years of production.
The retired dinnerware line soon became popular with collectors, especially those who had childhood memories of this brightly colored dinnerware. As years passed, the value of the original FIESTA® colors and pieces grew as more people became avid collectors.
In 1985, officials of Bloomingdale’s, the prestigious retailer in New York City approached Homer Laughlin about reproducing a dinnerware line from the past. Soon the two companies agreed that FIESTA® had the greatest chance for commercial success.
In early 1986, Bloomingdale’s introduced a new line of FIESTA® with a new color palette and with improvements to the body and glaze. Homer Laughlin was the country’s leading producer of restaurant china and it was determined that the new FIESTA® should be made of the same durable, restaurant- quality china body as the company’s other products. The ceramic glaze would be lead-free, a comparatively new innovation in the china industry.
This new version of FIESTA® was an instant success and a new generation of consumers became converts to FIESTA’s popularity.
Over the next twenty years, new colors have been introduced and FIESTA® has become a trendsetter of color for the housewares industry. In the seventy years since FIESTA® was first produced, there have been a total of 38 colors in the line.
Today, Homer Laughlin introduces one new color each year and FIESTA® has become the leading dinnerware brand in casual tabletop, as well as a consistent leader in bridal registries across America.
All the while, collectors have continued to add to the dinnerware to which they were first introduced by their mothers and grandmothers. Today, FIESTA® dinnerware is the most collected dinnerware in the history of the tabletop industry with well over one half billion pieces produced."
