Mornings and Evenings With Spurgeon Book Review!

Charles Spurgeon was well-named the "Prince of Preachers".  I read several of his books growing up, and recently picked up a book by him about Grace...and got hooked again! I started a Spurgeon collection, and was thrilled when given the opportunity to review Mornings and Evenings with Spurgeon (edited by Larry and Marion Pierce). This book has a 1-page devotional for morning and evening, every day of the year! It also includes a suggested Scripture reading for each day, which if you follow, will take you through the entire Bible in one year. I have been using this every day since I got the book in, and have really enjoyed the nuggets of Spiritual truth each morning, and again at night right before going to bed. Charles Spurgeon was such a man of God, and had such deep insight into many things. It is amazing how much you can get out of just a single page of this book! Several times since I started reading this, a sentence in the morning devotional catches my attention, and I am left thinking about it all day. I have been amazed by the tenderness with which Spurgeon addresses the readers, and always points them to Christ, the cross, and a relationship with the Lord. No matter what the theme of the devotion is, he always presents it in a unique way that brings the verse to life. Many times, the verse he uses as the springboard for his teaching is not a verse that you would usually think of as a meaty passage. But Spurgeon had a gift for seeing beyond the obvious, and taking a second, deeper look.
You can read some of the book here online, courtesy of New Leaf Publishing. Just read one of the devotions, and you'll see I am not exaggerating when I say that this is a book every Christian should own!

"Spurgeon’s classic devotions beautifully presented in a contemporary style!
There never seems to be enough time to do all the things we want to do, and often that includes taking the time to study and pray upon God’s Word every day like we know that we should. Now it only takes five minutes a day to grow in your faith as you enjoy this classic collection of devotions which have been updated for modern readers!

This collection is written to be easily understood and to reveal scriptural insights that can be quickly studied. Do one a day for a full two-year study or do two a day, one in the morning and one in the evening, as Spurgeon originally had designed them for a year’s worth of devotions.

A prolific author and pastor, Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) remains a respected and influential source of inspiration and study. His classic collection of devotions for morning and evening remain a beloved treasure of wisdom and teaching for Christians.

Compact and beautifully bound in an elegantly designed cover, Mornings and Evenings with Spurgeon can be the perfect gift, or an amazing addition to your personal study library!"
